Discover Shoney's - Harriman

Walking into Shoney's - Harriman feels like stepping into a place that knows exactly what it is and leans into it with confidence. Located at 1809 S Roane St, Harriman, TN 37748, United States, this diner-style restaurant has been a familiar stop for locals, road-trippers, and families for decades. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long drive or on a slow Sunday morning, and the experience has stayed remarkably consistent in a good way.

The menu is built around classic American comfort food, and that’s not just a marketing phrase-it’s the real deal. Breakfast is where this location really shines. The breakfast buffet is a big draw, especially for folks who like options without overthinking it. Scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, pancakes, and fresh fruit are laid out in a way that feels practical rather than flashy. From personal experience, the biscuits tend to disappear fast during peak hours, which tells you everything you need to know. According to the National Restaurant Association, breakfast remains one of the most popular dine-out meals in the U.S., and places like this prove why-it’s filling, affordable, and social.

Lunch and dinner follow the same down-to-earth approach. Burgers, fried chicken, meatloaf, and grilled sandwiches dominate the menu, along with a salad bar that’s still surprisingly well-stocked compared to many modern diners. I once watched a family of six customize completely different meals from the same spread, which is probably why reviews often mention how easy it is to please everyone at the table. That flexibility matters, especially in smaller towns where a single restaurant often becomes the go-to meeting place.

Service here deserves a mention. On multiple visits, I’ve noticed servers juggling full sections without losing their patience or friendliness. That kind of consistency doesn’t happen by accident. Shoney’s as a brand has long emphasized standardized training and operational processes, something restaurant industry experts frequently point to as a reason chains survive economic ups and downs. While no restaurant is perfect, the staff here usually corrects small mistakes quickly, which builds trust over time.

One thing regulars talk about is value. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous, and refills come without awkward glances. During a recent visit, I compared prices with similar diners in East Tennessee and found them right in line, if not slightly better. The hot fudge cake, a long-standing favorite, is often mentioned in reviews as a must-try dessert, and honestly, it lives up to the hype if you’ve got room left.

Location plays a big role too. Being right on South Roane Street makes it an easy stop whether you’re heading through Harriman or live nearby. Parking is straightforward, and the dining room layout works just as well for solo diners as it does for large groups. While the décor hasn’t changed much over the years, that familiarity is part of the charm rather than a drawback.

Of course, it’s fair to say this isn’t a place chasing food trends or experimental flavors. If someone is looking for cutting-edge cuisine, this may not be the right fit. But for reliable meals, friendly faces, and a menu that delivers what it promises, this spot continues to earn its place in the local restaurant scene. Reviews tend to echo that sentiment, focusing less on novelty and more on dependability, which is often what people want most when choosing where to eat.

  • I LOVE this place! I cannot convey how satisfying the food is here, and you really do get that old-school service as well. Everyone here actually seems invested in making sure you're comfortable and that the food is good - and it really, actually is! So good!! Hot and fresh with a big variety. This is the spot a lot of locals eat regularly - and, to me, they beat the other "Southern Cooking" place down the road by a country mile.

  • Tried this place one Sunday afternoon for breakfast only to learn they don't serve it all day it's over at 11 am so you know....but was pleasantly surprised with their buffet and the senoir special that starts at 2 pm all you can eat for $10.75 with a drink, the offerings were quite nice actually the salad bar was great as were the hot items and soups...the fried chicken was good with the mashed potatoes and gravy with some green beans alone was a great value ....I had never been to Shoneys since moving to Tennessee but I was impressed the food was good and the service was great the price was right and we will certainly visit again.

  • We were blown away by this Shoneys! The food was all good and hot, the buffet was well stocked and fresh, and the restaurant was very clean. Our service was wonderful, too. And this was on a random Monday at lunch… would absolutely come back if we lived close.

  • My sister and I had the breakfast buffet here on a Sunday morning during an event at The Expo Center. The food and everything was as fabulous as our memories of Shoney’s restaurants were. It brought back a lot of nostalgia from my childhood. All of the Shoney’s are closed in the part of NC where I’m originally from. The service here is top notch with our host/server being happy with her work, refilling our coffee and chatting a bit. The food was fresh and hot. The fruit was good and chilled. I recommend the breakfast sweet croissants and add a dollop of apple butter. The grits were hot and creamy and the coffee was good, a real eye opener. Thank you for being there!
